As part of Flood Expo’s outstanding service to the profession, we have assembled a panel of experts, thought leaders, and visionaries to take part in a series of debates over both days of the event. Issues and challenges that are currently prominent in each of the sectors our event covers will be discussed. Discussions will be held on topics such as future innovations and the benefits and limitations of using technology in flood defence and prevention; the role of insurance companies during and after flooding incidents; and the suitability of the current crisis plan and response to flooding in the UK. A record 78mm of rain fell over Gloucestershire on the 20th of July 2007, triggering the worst floods the region has seen since records began (1766). A gathering of industry experts will discuss the advancements in flood mitigation, resilience and rescue, and debate what more needs to be done.

Is there a better national understanding of what property level resilience is, amongst individuals, communities and businesses – and how is this being acheived? Come and join this lively discussion between DEFRA Roundtable task group panellists and Chair, Graham Brogden, for a closer insight on the progress made over the past year and those key challenges that the Roundtable looks to address going forward.
14:00 – 15:00: The Cumbria Flood Resilience Showcase: what effective collaboration can deliver
Join Mary Dhonau OBE as she leads a lively panel discussion on the need for community innovation and the benefits found in business-led collaborations. The Cumbria Showcase is sponsored by the EA, DEFRA, Adler and Allan and is supported by the expertise and specialist resource made available by business across the flood industry. Three exemplar case studies of flood impacted property in Cumbria give context to recommendations for effective flood resistance and resilience measures to address the risk posed to a homeowner, community centre and small business premises.
