The SARA team are getting ready for a dynamic flood environment!

The independent rescue association SARA (Severn Area Rescue Association) have recently been very busy practising the skills needed should there be a dynamic flooding situation.

SARA is an Inshore Rescue Boat and Land Search and Rescue organisation covering the Severn Estuary and the surrounding area. It supports HM Coastguard, Fire & Rescue and Police services 24/7, 365 days of the year. SARA is an independent organisation, and is a proud member of Mountain Rescue England & Wales.

Team SARA have been really busy recently, training as Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Boat Operators. SARA has 4 Type B Flood Rescue Teams, and in recent months 11 members of the Association have been certified or recertified, following training in the Menai Straits. John Dutton, the senior coxswain at SARA Tewkesbury Rescue Station - which was set up following the 2008 floods -  commented "training at Menai gives us the opportunity to practice skills which we might need in a dynamic flood environment".
