Alex has been working on climate change for over 15 years, and joined the Environment Agency 11 years ago. She is a Senior Advisor and technical climate change lead in the National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) Directorate. Her work includes embedding climate change adaptation within the development and implementation of FCERM national policy, guidance, strategies and schemes. Her current focus is on the development of an FCERM climate change ambition, providing input into the National Adaptation Programme and ensuring that major FCERM strategies, including the update of the National FCERM Strategy, are climate resilient. Since joining the Environment Agency Alex has played an active role in developing and delivering action to address the impacts of climate change internally and externally. Alex has an MSC in Climate Change and Sustainable Development, and has previously worked in local government and as manager of the South West Climate Change Impacts Partnership.
Preparing for climate change in flood and coastal risk management
Flooding and coastal change risks to communities, business and infrastructure is identified as one of the top 6 priority climate risks for the UK. The presentation will summarise the key climate impacts and challenges to flood and coastal erosion risk management (FCERM). In the context of national policy and the Environment Agency’s corporate approach to adaptation, the presentation will highlight the Environment Agency’s approach to ensure FCERM is climate resilient.
