Andy Elliott

Dorset County Council

Andy juggles two careers; as Dorset County’s GIS Manager and as a Station Commander working the Retained Duty System with Dorset Fire and Rescue Service where he has recently being appointed as the wildfire advisor. He has been involved in wildfire research in the UK, Europe and South Africa. The meeting of these two pathways resulted in the development, in partnership with Environment Agency colleagues, of the web based GIS Severe Weather Information System (SWIM).

Andy and his team responded to a call in December 2015 and rolled out a Cumbrian version within 48 hours, allowing local teams to record the impact of flooding and coordinate their response during the recovery phase. Subsequently versions have been released for Yorkshire and Essex as well as the original which is used across Wessex.
