Floods monitoring in Prague - from Historical Water Gauge to Telemetric Station Waterlogger
The subject of seminar is history of floods on the river Vltava (Moldau) in Prague including the last disastrous flooding in 2002 and their monitoring. Water level in Prague by the Charles Bridge was monitored since Middle Ages. The purpose was the early warning of the population, preventing damages to property and losses of life. In 2013 a modern telemetric station - Waterlogger was installed by the Charles Bridge. It enables, besides monitoring of water level and rainfall, also measuring of many other important parameters for early warning, especially against split-second floods on small catchments. In particular it enables monitoring of soil profile saturation , soil matrix potential and many others.
