I am a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager and Scientist who has held a number of technical and leadership positions across the Environment Agency. I am currently focussed on the skills and workforce challenges facing the flood risk sector. I lead our Higher Education Programme in Flood and Coastal Engineering on behalf of the Environment Agency. Working across the skills, capacity and capability agenda, I ensure we have the right people, in the right locations, at the right time, working within flood and coastal risk management, to face the challenges of today and the years ahead.
Skills Challenges in the Flood Sector
Come and hear about the skills challenges facing the flood sector and how we feel collaboration holds the key to better protecting the country against flooding. We have a 14 year legacy of investing in higher education and to date we have developed 376 graduates in flood and coastal engineering. A consortium of Brunel University London and HR Wallingford now deliver this – delivering a Foundation Degree which will produce Engineering Technicians, a BSc which will produce Incorporated Engineers and an MSc which will produce Chartered Engineers for the Environment Agency, local authorities and other risk management authorities. The opportunities to get involved are wide and varied.
