Simon, a businessman and volunteer emergency responder, was in Manhattan for 9/11, in Jersey City for the North-East Blackout of 2003 and Superstorm Sandy in 2012, and has personally responded to serious emergencies in Jersey City and beyond, including being the immediate responder to a street shooting in September 2017, following which he received a commendation for ‘acts of heroism and bravery’ from the City Council. Simon received a certificate of appreciation from the Mayor of Jersey City at a ceremony in August 2017 for his work to introduce ‘Stop The Bleed’ training to the city.
Simon has various emergency response and management certifications, including Tactical Emergency Casualty Care and Technical Emergency Response Training for CBRNE Incidents, and has been awarded the Professional Development Series Certificate of Achievement by the Emergency Management Institute. Simon is a certified Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) instructor.
The Role For Non-Profits In Disaster Resilience And Emergency Response
Resilient JC was formed to support and enhance disaster resilience and emergency response capability in Jersey City, New Jersey. The speaker will outline the threats to Jersey City, the creation of Resilient JC, the role it has embraced and the initiatives it has underway, including amphibious emergency response. The speaker will identify the gaps that a non-profit can uniquely fill and the challenges that need to be overcome.
